Having written some poems in response to Knotweed and Queens Cross I have started to look for artists who combine both art and poetry.
This is Robert Montgomery’s work. He studied at Edinburgh College of Art.
He puts his poems into public space, often illegally posting them over billboards.
This is one of the works of his that I like. It seems to be questioning themes such as hierarchy and power.
Some of his other poems I find, in my opinion, to be a little cliched or melodramatic. I prefer poetry dealing with more ordinary people and language. They come across a bit forced at times. However this obviously might be different to someone else.
Nonetheless I find the act of putting them in public places to be a good way of opening things up to the public and giving the work a whole new context.
